WAUSAU — Workers will pick up discarded Christmas trees for a two-week stretch starting Monday, Jan. 8, according to a city of Wausau news release.

The city’s garbage and recycling contractor, Harter’s Disposal, will sweep continually through the city until Friday, Jan. 19, to dispose of trees, which should be cut in lengths not to exceed four feet. Residents should place the trees on their side so trunks do not become stuck in the ice and snow.

Pickup will not necessarily happen on a regularly scheduled garbage collection day, but will be happening throughout the two-week span.

Residents who want to dispose of their own tree can do so at the city’s yard waste site, located at the east end of Chellis Street, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the same time frame.

If your tree is missed, call the Department of Public Works at 715-261-6971.
