Boat safety instructors from the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department will offer the Wisconsin DNR boat safety course in April for adults and children age 10 and up.

State law requires anyone born after Jan. 1, 1989 to have a boat safety certificate in order to operate a boat in Wisconsin. Students who attend all four classes can earn a certificate.

Classes will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on April 10, April 12, April 17, and April 19 at the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department. The course is recommended for children 12 years of age and older, but may be completed by children as young as 10.

Children need a parent present for the beginning of the first class.

Registration can be completed by using the Wisconsin DNR’s website at https://gowild.wi.gov/ The cost for this course is $10 which needs to be paid the first night of the course.
