WAUSAU — A 35-year-old Athens man is facing his sixth drunken driving charge after notifying police he was involved in an early morning crash on Friday.

Guy Belanger called the crash in shortly before 4 a.m., summoning police to the crash site on Hwy. A near 10th Lane in the town of Hamburg, according to the police report.

According to court documents, when police told Belanger he was under arrest, he responded by saying, “Well, no shit, huh?”

Police say they discovered an open case of beer and what appeared to be a mixed drink in the vehicle.

Belanger told police he had been “someplace he shouldn’t have been” and had consumed too much alcohol, the police report states.

Belanger appeared Monday in Marathon County Circuit Court, where he faces charges of sixth offense drunken driving.

Court documents show Belanger was also cited for failure to keep a vehicle under control, keeping open intoxicants in a motor vehicle and refusing to take a test for intoxication after an arrest.

He is free after posting a $5,000 cash bond and is due in court April 4 for a preliminary hearing.
