WAUSAU — Tiffany Janikowski has been named the 2018 Marathon County Telecommunicator of the Year, according to Sheriff Scott Parks.

The honor is bestowed each year during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, which happens each year in the second week of April. Congress in 1984 designated the week to recognize people who work in 911 centers and communications divisions of law enforcement.

“The true first responders to any emergency or call for service are the dedicated men and women working the consoles in our dispatch centers taking the initial information and sending the appropriate response to those needing it,” Parks wrote in a Facebook post.

Many times these workers are voices heard, but faces never seen. The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office identifies one communications officer to be honored annually.

Tiffany has been working for the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department since May 2015.

“Although her time with us has been short, she has made great strides and is frequently spoken highly about by her peers, her supervisors and other emergency service personnel she directs,” Parks wrote. “Tiffany earned the recognition and we are quite proud of her.”
