WAUSAU — Dozens of Franklin Elementary School students lined the fence early Thursday along Sixth Street in Wausau while other citizens crowded area sidewalks during a procession that led the body of a medic killed in an air ambulance crash to his funeral.
Greg Rosenthal, 43, was one of three people who died April 26 when a medical helicopter crashed in Hazelhurst. The helicopter was 12 miles from its final destination when the crew lost contact. Rico Caruso and Klint Mitchell were also killed in the crash.
The crew was returning to home base after transporting a patient to Madison, officials said.
Many of the students held handmade signs thanking Rosenthal for his service, while a long line of fire trucks, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles led the funeral procession.
A public memorial Friday will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Woodruff for all three victims of the crash.
