WAUSAU – Northcentral Technical College’s Alternative High School is celebrating 30 years of positive impact through a community art project that will be showcased at Monk Botanical Gardens in Wausau on Saturday, May 19.

The free event is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be held in conjunction with the annual Green Saturday Plant Sale, Flea Market & Workshops.

Alternative High School student artwork will be featured at Monk Botanical Gardens.

Students have participated in an art project, NTC AHS Rocks!, that aims to build positive relationships with others and the community while earning credit, according to an Alternative High School news release. Students painted unique designs and positive messages on rocks that will be hidden at Monk Botanical Gardens. Visitors of the gardens are challenged to find these hand-painted rocks.

A silent auction featuring hand-painted chairs also will be held at the event. The artwork is part of The Funky Chair Project, a service learning project. All proceeds will support Monk Botanical Gardens.

“These projects give students the opportunity to express themselves creatively while connecting to each other and the community,” said Margie Bock, student advisor/work transition instructor. “We are honored to be celebrating the Alternative High School’s 30 year anniversary through this unique community event.”
