WAUSAU — Fire crews late Tuesday quickly extinguished a blaze at a duplex on Wausau’s east side, a fire that was mostly confined to the building’s exterior.

Crews were called at about 11 p.m. Tuesday to the home in the 600 block of Humboldt Street near Bridge Street in Wausau. One person was inside the upper level of the duplex, who escaped without harm. The lower level residents were not at home when the blaze broke out.

A preliminary investigation suggests that a cigarette could have caused the blaze, though an investigation is underway. Foul play is not suspected.

No one was injured.
