Another year is in the books for the Wisconsin Valley Golf Association, a group of golfers in central Wisconsin that plays several competitive tournaments throughout the season on courses located in the Wisconsin river valley.
Here are the results from the season ending, two day, event of the year held Aug. 18-19 at the Wisconsin River Golf Course in Stevens Point and at Indianhead Golf Course in Mosinee.
Championship Flight
Shooting a 141 (-3) Kelly Burger wins the two day event and 30 points for the year standings. On the second day he started with an eagle (2) on the first hole and was 6 under through 12 holes. Dan Augustine finished with a two day total of 152 (+8) and missed tying Kelly for the season points championship by one shot.
First Flight
Ed Larson shoots a two day total of 153 (+9) to win the two day event by 4 strokes. Mark Shopinski, 158 (+14), was three under on the last four holes on Sunday to finish third for the two days.
Chad Henke finished the year with a 157 (+13) to take second in the two day tournament. The 24 points were also enough for Chad to hang on and win the yearly points championship.
Second Flight
As steady as he was all year, Roger Herrick shoots an 82 on Saturday and an 80 on Sunday to win the two day event. This also wrapped up the season points total win for Roger. It was a great year for Roger.
Third Flight
Mike Tillou shot an 83 on Saturday and survived an 11, on hole 16, Sunday to shoot a 93 to win the tournament. Mike came into the weekend with the lead for the season points total and won the third flight championship this year.
Net Flight
Philip Knospe and Hank Hosler battled it out both days just as they have been all year. They tied for the two days, shooting a net 147. This was enough for Philip to hang on and win the yearly points championship for net flight.
