The Marathon County Metropolitan Planning Commission met Tuesday afternoon with board members from Wausau, Kronenwetter, Maine, Mosinee, Rib Mountain, Stettin, Rothschild, Weston, Highway Committee and North Central Region. Of course there is a village I am forgetting,  which is Brokaw. For good reason though, because it is no longer Brokaw it is now part of the Village of Maine.

The commission is concerned with “studies and recommendations relating to activities including but not limited to land use, natural resources, utilities and transportation systems within the metropolitan planning area,” according to public documents. Members of the group are John Robinson, who chairs the committee, along with Allan Opall, Betty Hoenisch, Steve Hagman, Mayor Robert Mileke, Raynard Zunker, John Prahl, Milton Olson, Chris Voll, Barbara Ermeling, Brent Jacobson, Kregg Hoehn, and Russ Halbeck.

The main topic for the Oct. 16 meeting was putting together a “citizens input group,” which is pretty much the same as their already-established bike and pedestrian committee. The purpose of the group is to address the need for public transportation from the minds of the citizens.

Board members from Marathon County Metro Committee will have applications written up for the public to fill out if they are interested. Then, the Marathon County Metro Committee will review and choose which of the applicants are the best fit for the new committee. This application isn’t ready for the public quite yet though. Anyone interested will have to wait until the application is reviewed by the board at their next meeting, at 2 p.m. on Nov. 13 at the Marathon County Courthouse.

Editor’s note: The Wausau Pilot and Review Documenters program is made possible through individual donations and grants from several organizations including the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin. The program aims to democratize news and information at the local level through a group of local contributors
