At Wausau’s public health and safety committee met Monday, members discussed license applications from residents as well as a proposed ordinance to permit alcohol drive-up sales.

During the meeting there was a turnaround for a denial recommendation for Jameson Diedrich for his bartender’s license. Diedrich told the committee he had problems about five years ago with alcohol and drug abuse but has made drastic improvements since that time. He impressed the committee enough that they opted to approve his license, despite an earlier denial.

A denial was left in place, however, for Daniel Bacholl, who applied for his public transport license. Daniel was found not guilty of attempted first degree homicide by reason of mental disease or defect in 2003 and the committee ultimately decided not to approve his application.

Two special upcoming events were noted and approved. Winterfest will be held Jan. 26 on The 400 Block, held by Wausau Events. The second event discussed was the “Chase N Chocolates” Run/Walk, on May 11 held by Marshfield Clinic and Community Health Plan, held at The Women’s Community.

A request for “Click and Collect” alcohol drive up sales was brought to the committee by Applebee’s. A motion to prohibit drive up alcohol sales was put in place, however, following suit with the city of Neenah.

The rest of the meeting was about a couple who lives in Wausau asking to have their burning permit put back in place. The couple had repeated complaints from neighbors and made mistakes of burning materials that are not permitted in recreational fire pits.
