WAUSAU — Wausau Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of a Saturday crash that left a pedestrian critically injured.

Capt. Todd Baeten tells Wausau Pilot and Review the victim is an 82-year-old man. His name has not yet been released.

The victim was struck at about 5 p.m. Saturday by a southbound vehicle on Grand Avenue at Henrietta Street. As of late Saturday, the man was hospitalized in critical condition; Baeten says police do not have an updated condition on the man.

“The exact location of the incident has not yet been determined, as the investigation continues,” Baeten said.

Roads and sidewalks were slippery Saturday due to freezing rain and falling temperatures, leading to multiple crashes county-wide, according to the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department. Police have not said if weather played a role in the Grand Avenue crash but have said alcohol was not a factor and no citations have been issued.

The driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with police, officials said.
