WAUSAU — The University of Wisconsin Stevens Point at Wausau Office of Continuing Education and Outreach Education will hold an Iroquois raised beadwork course from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. March 13 at the UW Center for Civic Engagement.

Karen Ann Hoffmann

Iroquois raised beadwork is a rare style of Native American beadwork from the Eastern Great Lakes Region. First executed with stone and shell, later with moose hair and hide, and now with cloth and glass beads; this beadwork protects and preserves Iroquois culture.

Each student will create a hanging strawberry using patterns provided by instructor Karen Ann Hoffmann, a beadwork expert of the Oneida nation. Class includes all materials and supplies. Class size is limited.

Hoffmann has several of her pieces on display and in permanent collections at the Smithsonian, Wisconsin and New York state museums.

The fee is $69. To register, visit ce.uwc.edu/wausau/catalog/iroquois-raised-beadwork-2/7286 or call 715-261-6294.
