The Merrill Fire Department was dispatched just before 6 a.m. to a report of a fully involved barn fire at N49 Scott Road in the town of Scott, Klug said. Though crews arrived within minutes of the page, the barn was already lost.

Firefighters then turned their focus on protecting other structures near the barn which were beginning to smolder.

A large chicken coop, machine shed, and pull behind camper were saved and no animals were injured in the blaze. One firefighter suffered a knee injury while battling the blaze, officials said.

Crews transported an estimated 33,000 gallons of water to the scene. Merrill was assisted by fire departments from Corning, Hamburg, Maine and Pine River. Lincoln County Sheriff’s officials controlled traffic and Wisconsin Public Service controlled the utilities.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined at this time.
