New events added April 15: Marathon County Public Library activities

The Marathon County Public Library will host several events in the coming weeks at its various libraries.


Come discuss the book “Ella Enchanted,” then watch the 2004 film adaptation of the book, during the next Book-to-Movie Night on April 16 from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau. Free and open to all ages. Call 715-261-7220 for more info.


Kids and families can hear spring stories, sing songs, play games and make a spring craft on April 16 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Rothschild Branch, 211 Grand Ave., Rothschild. Free. For more info, call 715-359-6208.


A special money-themed story time event will be offered on April 16 from 4-4:30 p.m. at the Mosinee Branch, 123 Main St., Mosinee. Kids in attendance will receive a book, crayons and coloring pages, while supplies last. Free. For more info, call 715-693-2144.

Children, tweens and teens can create bracelets using macramé and tying knots with embroidery thread on April 19 from 1-4:30 p.m. at the Hatley Branch, 435 Curtis Ave., Hatley. All supplies will be provided. For more info, call 715-446-3537.


Kids and families can watch 2017 animated film based on the popular Ninjago theme of LEGO products on April 19 from 2-4 p.m. at the Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau. Rated PG. Free. For more info, call 715-261-7220.


From April 22 through May 20, children and their families can walk along the scenic River Edge Trail in downtown Wausau and read the pages of two children’s books! Trail Tales will run between Kickbusch Plaza and Wausau on Water, WOW, restaurant. Offered by the Marathon County Public Library and the Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department. Local history buffs won’t want to miss an event focused on the history of logging in central Wisconsin on April 22 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Mosinee Branch, 123 Main St., Mosinee. Marathon County Historical Society’s Gary Gisselman will talk about how logging became such an important part of central Wisconsin’s culture and economy. Free. For more info, call 715-693-2144.


 

Adults can learn how to access free e-books and audiobooks using their library card and their smartphone or tablet during a free class on April 22 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau. A second, identical class will be held on April 23 from 2:30-4 p.m. Free, with registration required. Call 715-261-7230 for more info or to register.

NEW! All ages are invited to Wordstock, a three-day poetry event, happening April 22-24 at the Marathon County Public Library’s Marathon City Branch, 515 Washington St., Marathon City. A different poetry-related activity will be offered each day, with all supplies provided, including making origami peace doves and creating erasure poems! Free. Call 715-443-2775 for more info.

NEW! Kids in grades K-5 can make their own catapults during a free event on April 23 from 4-5 p.m. at the Marathon County Public Library’s Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau. After making your catapult, test it out by launching marshmallows! Free. Call 715-261-7220 for more info.

NEW! Adults can learn ways to interest kids in gardening during a free event on April 25 from 5-7 p.m. at its Rothschild Branch, 211 Grand Ave., Rothschild. Brianna Wright, horticulture educator with Marathon County’s UW-Extension, will lead the event and will also answer attendees’ other gardening-related questions. Free. NEW! Kids and families can attend a money-themed story time on April 27 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Marathon County Public Library’s Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau. Kids, tweens, teens and adults can submit written works focused on stories and memories of the village of Marathon during “Marathon Memories” essay contest, running through May 31. Awards will be presented in each of the four age categories.
