WAUSAU — Kick off your gardening plans with the Master Gardener Plant Sale, to be held from 7 a.m. to noon May 18 at the Marathon Park cattle barn.

A large selection of locally grown plants will be available, including perennial flowers and
annuals, tomatoes, vegetables, herbs, native plants, houseplants, ornamental grasses and hostas.

Lilacs, black eyed Susans, lady’s mantel, bleeding hearts, anemones, astilbe and Russian sage are just a few of the plants that will be available.

Gently used tools, gardening accessories and decorative garden items also will be available for sale.

The Marathon County Solid Waste Department will offer a Home Composter compost bin that is made from 100% recycled material and has a 17-cubic-foot/125-gallon capacity. It sells for $55 and comes apart into two halves, making it easy for turning materials and moving the bin.

To encourage more composting of kitchen food scraps, a stainless steel kitchen pail will be sold for $25. The 1.3-gallon pail is easy to clean, doesn’t stain and has a charcoal filter lid.

The event also includes a children’s garden area, giving kids the opportunity to participate in a planting project, which they can take home.

Questions about gardening or your newly purchased plants can be answered by master gardeners at the event.
