Kristina Barbier was recently awarded an Everest Excellence Community Member Award for her part in providing more than 1,000 backpacks and supplies to students in the D.C. Everest Area School District.

Barbier is the chairperson of this Workplace Volunteer Council event, and the organization’s signature project, Fill a Backpack Fill a Need, provides backpacks filled with school supplies to children in Marathon County who qualify for free or reduced lunch.

The WVC’s other key projects are Bare Necessities and Back to Basics. Bare Necessities collects new undergarments and new socks and Back to Basics collects travel, sample and full-size toiletries. All items are distributed to individuals and families in need in our community.

If you are interested in learning more about WVC or becoming a member, you can attend the organization’s next meeting from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. May 8 at the United Way Office, 705 24th Ave., Suite 400B, or call Krista Mischo at 715-298-5719.
