WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department is seeking public help to solve a theft case in the town of Bradley, south of Tomahawk.

Sometime either late Thursday, May 16 or early Friday, May 17, someone removed a portable welder from the gated area of the PCA Mill on CTH E outside of Tomahawk, police said.

The portable welder weighs an estimated 1,000 pounds and the thieves would have likely needed a forklift to load the item into a truck or trailer. The welder, with an estimated value of $10,000 was clearly stamped with UNITED RENTAL and was being used by a contractor at the mill.

On Friday the welder was recovered from a ditch on Old 8 Rd, in the Town of Monico in eastern Oneida County.

Information developed during the investigation also led deputies to believe that the thieves stayed in Rhinelander and may have patronized businesses in Lincoln Street. Investigators are currently following up with Rhinelander officers, who are checking camera systems at these businesses.

If you have any information on this theft or saw any suspicious activity in Rhinelander or Monico you are asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 715-536-6272. Callers may also call Crime Stoppers at 715-536-3726 or online at www.p3tips.com  People who contact Crime Stoppers may qualify for a cash reward.
