One person is dead and another person is in custody following the apparent shooting death of a 19-year-old Wausau man.

Crime scene tape surrounds a home on North Third Avenue near Cedar Street in Wausau on June 7, 2019.

Wausau Pilot and Review first reported a large police presence in the 300 block of North Second Avenue on Friday, June 7, where crime scene tape surrounded a home. Overnight, Wausau Police Capt. Ben Graham issued a news release with more details about the incident, calling it a suspicious death investigation.

According to the release officers and an ambulance were called at 3:07 p.m. to the home for a report of a medical emergency. On arrival, the teenage victim was found dead.

The death involved a firearm and is being investigated as a homicide, Graham said.

About eight hours after the shooting police arrested 18-year-old David Anselmo, who is jailed on a preliminary charge of second degree reckless homicide. Anselmo, who police say knew his alleged victim, is likely to appear in court Monday for an initial appearance on the charge.

The victim’s name has not yet been publicly released.

The Wausau Police Department is being assisted in their investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Wisconsin State Crime Lab.
