A sheriff’s deputy has been shot in Wood County and was airlifted to Marshfield Medical Center in an incident Tuesday evening in the village of Arpin, according to police.

Officers were called at about 8 p.m. to a location on Hwy. 186 near Hwy. N for a report of a suicidal person. What happened next has not yet been made clear, but police confirm the deputy was shot in the arm and was transported by helicopter for medical treatment.

The condition of the deputy was not released late Tuesday and no other details were immediately available. The condition of the suicidal subject was also not released.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation is spearheading the investigation. Additional details are expected on Wednesday.
