This week marks the 30th anniversary of the Midwest Renewable Energy Fair, an event that draws thousands of visitors to the Portage County community of Custer.

At 10 a.m. today, June 20, Wisconsin Public Radio’s “Route 51” host Shereen Siewert will welcome Nick Hylla, executive director of the Midwest Renewable Energy Association, to discuss this year’s more than 200 workshops and speakers.

The June 21-23 Energy Fair is the nation’s longest-running event of its kind, bringing people together to learn about sustainability and clean energy and take action toward a sustainable future. Hylla, who will present three separate workshops, will talk about what’s new at this year’s event, and the reasons so many people gather in central Wisconsin each year to talk about sustainable energy.

“Route 51” airs at 10 a.m. Thursdays on The Ideas Network stations 101.3 & 91.9/Wausau, AM 930/Auburndale-Stevens Point, 99.1/Stevens Point, 100.9/Marshfield, 90.3/Park Falls, 89.1/Adams-Wisconsin Rapids, and 89.9/Rhinelander-Eagle River. It is re-broadcast Fridays at 7 p.m. on 90.9/Wausau. Program archives are available at?wpr.org/route51.
