Police have identified the man shot Aug. 24 by a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy as Daniel E. Boldt, of Merrill.

According to a news release issued Thursday, deputies stopped Boldt’s vehicle on Hwy. 64 in the town of Scott because he was wanted in connection with a domestic related incident. During the stop, Bolt opene the door of the vehicle and allegedly displayed a weapon.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Travis Watruba, a 13-year law enforcement veteran, shot Bolt, who was airlifted to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. Bolt survived and has been taken into police custody on unspecified charges related to the incident. Watruba was not injured.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, at the request of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, has been leading the investigation.

Per policy, the deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation.

DCI is continuing to determine the facts of this incident and will turn over investigative reports and evidence to the Lincoln County District Attorney when the investigation concludes.
