The crash was reported at 2:45 p.m. Nov. 23 on County Hwy. K at County Hwy. A. Two people were injured in the crash.

Bruce Peter, 60, of Athens appeared in court Monday, Nov. 25. During an initial appearance he was ordered held on a $7,500 cash bond.

Police say Peter was traveling northbound in a truck and pulled in front of a southbound truck while attempting a left turn onto County Hwy. A.

According to the police report, Peter admitted drinking alcohol before the crash, but when asked if he would submit to a chemical test of his blood, he repeatedly responded “I don’t know.” Peter was transported to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for treatment of his injuries, where a chemical test was performed. Those results are pending.

Court records show Peter has five prior OWI convictions ranging from 1990 to 2010. A Facebook post from the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department initially stated a charge of 10th offense OWI was expected.

In addition to the felony OWI charge, Peter was cited for failure to yield while making a left turn.

A preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 4.
