Badger State Games hosts weightlifting, billiards, more, this weekend

WAUSAU – The Badger State Games’ Winter Games continues Feb. 14 with events in weightlifting, billiards, esports and snowshoeing. Those who medal with a gold, silver or bronze are then eligible to compete in the State Games of America taking place in Ames, Iowa.

Here’s what’s coming up this weekend.

Bench Press and Deadlift

Calling all power lifters! Join us this weekend at Franck’s Gym to show everyone just how strong you are! This year, groups range from ages 14 to 75 years old and include 18 weight classes for men and women. The top three male and female participants in each weight class will receive medals. Feb. 15

Weigh-ins: 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Lifters meeting: 11 a.m.

Billiards

This weekend-long event at Mad Apple Billiards in Appleton, draws talented players to compete in the 2020 Wisconsin State 8-ball Championships. Along with the 8-Ball Singles and Scotch Doubles matches this year, we have invited Junior players from Wisconsin, as well as neighboring states Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa and Illinois to compete in the fifth annual Wisconsin Junior 8-Ball Championships. Feb. 16: 9 a.m. Continuation of play in all divisions if necessary.

Esports

This weekend BSG and Northcentral Technical College have teamed up to bring you a new Esports tournament! This year’s new Esports tournament will not only include fan favorite, Super Smash Brothers, but participants will now be able to compete in Rocket League and League of Legends. Teams will be able to win swag and raffle prizes while also competing for medals and prize money. More details available at www.visitwausau.com/esports.

Feb. 15-16

Registration is at 8 a.m. both days and play will start after setup.

Snowshoe Race Series

This is race No. 3 in the Snowshoe Racing Trifecta for the 2020 BSG Winter Games and will be at Marshfield School Forest in Marshfield. The first race was held in Rhinelander on Jan. 11 and the second was held on Feb. 9 in Gleason. Racers of all ages will compete in a 5k, 10k, or Kids’ 400 Meter race.
