Wausau Pilot & Review

SCHOFIELD – The D.C. Everest girls basketball team used a dominant second half to pull past Wausau East 63-54 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup Friday at the Greenheck Fieldhouse at D.C. Everest High School.

Wausau East led 28-26 before the Evergreens battled back, outscoring East 37-26 in the second half to grab the victory.

Kiara Hammond continued her torrid scoring run by pouring in 33 points for D.C. Everest, which improves to 8-10 overall and 3-4 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. She has now scored 20 points or more in 15 of the team’s games this season. Friday’s performance was Hammond’s season-high and the third time she has reached 30 points in a game.

Ella Pavlovich chipped in 12 points for the Evergreens.

Madisyn Krueger had a team-high 28 points, including four 3-pointers, for Wausau East (2-11, 0-6 Wisconsin Valley Conference.

D.C. Everest plays at Wausau West and East will travel to Eagle River to take on Northland Pines on Tuesday.
