The suspect accused in a Friday shooting that left one person seriously injured in Wausau is being held on a $100,000 cash bond as of Monday, jail records show.

The shooting happened on Friday on the city’s southwest side. Officers were dispatched at about 1:40 p.m. on Jan. 28 to the area of Emter Street and Myron Street for a report of a shooting after a 38-year-old man was shot.

Police say the alleged victim was shot at a home in the 200 block of Myron Street before walking to a second home in the 14oo block of Emter Street to ask for help.

Richard L. Mason, 28, is in custody in connection with the shooting. Police say Mason left the area in a vehicle registered to him. That vehicle was located a short time later in the 800 block of Lake View Drive and Mason was found on foot nearby.

Mason, who has been convicted in the past of only minor crimes, is being held on preliminary charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide. He has not yet had an initial appearance in the case. Police say the alleged victim was seriously injured but have not released any updates on his name or current condition.

Official charges have not yet been filed. An initial appearance is set for Feb. 4.
