WAUSAU – Since Russian military forces invaded Ukraine in February, the conflict has escalated to a full-scale invasion of the sovereign nation. More than two million refugees have fled the country and both sides are experiencing heavy casualties as the war continues. While this might seem like a far-off conflict in a troubled region, experts say this attack on one of the world’s newest democracies has significant global repercussions.

At 10 a.m. on Friday, March 11, “Route 51” host Shereen Siewert welcomes Damir Kovacevic, an assistant professor of political science at UW-Eau Claire specializing in international relations, international security and political violence; and Jeff Leigh, a professor of history at UW-Stevens Point who teaches courses on Russia, modern revolutions and world war, for an in-depth look at the Ukraine crisis. Their discussion will offer historical context on the war, the human toll of the conflict and the impact on Western nations moving forward.

Listeners can join the conversation by calling 800-780-9742 or email questions to [email protected].
