Wausau Pilot & Review

STEVENS POINT – Wisconsin Rapids won six individual titles and earned the team championship at the 2024 Wisconsin Valley Conference Wrestling Tournament on Saturday at Stevens Point Area Senior High.

Wisconsin Rapids finished with 241 points, Marshfield was second with 174.5, D.C. Everest third with 172.5, Wausau West fourth with 149.6 and Wausau East seventh with 53.

Wausau West’s William McCorison repeated as the conference champion at 285 pounds, earning a 3-2 win over Tanner Gormanson of Wisconsin Rapids.

West also had a runner-up finisher in Samuel Volm at 106, and third-place finishes from Henry Ruffi (120), Caleb Feil (126) and Sam Galang (132).

D.C. Everest had four runner-up finishes and five wrestlers place third. Josh Danens (138), Deakin Trotzer (144), Carson Kempf (150) and Nathaniel Briggs (165) each took second, and Blake Bangtson (157), Niko Kleinschmidt (175), Daytona Pagel (190), Bradock Rickert (215) and Oscar Latendresse (285) all finished third for the Evergreens.

Wausau East’s Elmer Heard took second at 215 pounds for the Lumberjacks’ only top-three finish.

Wausau West, Wausau East and D.C. Everest will all compete at a WIAA Division 1 regional next Saturday, Feb. 10, at D.C. Everest.
