Wausau Pilot & Review
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Wisconsin Rapids Assumption used a six-point advantage in overtime to slip past Wausau Newman Catholic 66-60 in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Monday at Assumption High School.
J.T. Schlaefer drilled a 3-pointer for Assumption at the buzzer of regulation to send the game to overtime, where the Royals outscored Newman Catholic 9-3 to earn the victory.
Assumption is now 11-12 overall and 7-8 in the Marawood South, and Newman Catholic drops to 4-19 and 2-13 in conference play.
Lucas Pfiffner had 23 points, Quincy Pfender 11 and Griffin Puent 10 for the Cardinals.
Schlaefer had 24 points and nine rebounds, and Jack Wiedmeyer finished with 17 points and eight rebounds for Assumption.
Both teams finish their regular-season and Marawood South schedules Thursday. Assumption will be at home against Stratford and Newman Catholic will host Edgar.
