WAUSAU – With an election year upon us, it is more important than ever to ensure the news we’re consuming is factually accurate. At UW-Stout, researchers wanted to know whether artificial intelligence systems could determine whether news stories are real or fabricated. The results of that research are eye-opening.

At 10 a.m. Feb. 23, “Route 51” host Shereen Siewert welcomes Kevin Matthe Caramancion, assistant professor at UW Stout, and David Ding, a UW-Stout professor serving on the Governor’s Task Force on Workforce and Artificial Intelligence, for a discussion on the potential benefits and drawbacks of AI systems in fact-checking news stories.

“Route 51” is heard Fridays at 10 a.m. on The Ideas Network stations 101.3 & 91.9/Wausau, AM 930/Auburndale-Stevens Point, 99.1/Stevens Point, 100.9/Marshfield, 90.3/Park Falls, 89.1/Adams-Wisconsin Rapids, 89.9/Rhinelander-Eagle River, 88.3/Menomonie-Eau Claire and 88.7/River Falls and live streamed at wrfw887.com/listen-live.html.
