Wausau Pilot & Review

The Wausau School District on Monday launched a new phase in its superintendent search by formally publishing the candidate application and brochure that outlines the prole the district is seeking.

The materials were posted last week. Interested candidates should visit the Wausau School District’s website at https://www.wausauschools.org/about-wsd/superintendent-search to apply.

The application period is valid until March 15.

On Monday, Human Resources Director Tabatha Gundrum is briefing Wausau School Board members during an Education/Operations Committee meeting, according to the published agenda. Board President James Bouche is also expected to share developments related to the superintendent search.

Superintendent Keith Hilts will retire after the academic year concludes. His replacement is expected to assume responsibilities on July 1.

Last month, the board established a tentative timeline in the search for the new superintendent. It expects to conclude the search and award a contract by mid-April.

The district has already completed a community survey and focus groups’ discussions. According to the district officials, 1,132 people completed the survey by the time it closed on Feb. 8. This was followed by different focus groups’ review of the survey responses. Those groups included administrative, teaching and support staff, students and board members.

The review of the applications will begin on March 18, followed by the first round of interviews of the candidates and the selection of finalists will take place on April 1 and 2.
