Roger Grebe of Wausau was presented the “Pen of Honor” at the Wausau American Legion Post 10 membership meeting. The Legion meeting was held on March 19, 2024 at Bunker’s Restaurant in Wausau.

The “Pen Lady” who is from Weston wishes to remain anonymous. She builds the bolt action rifle bullet pens and donates them, in gun cases, to honor our Central Wisconsin Veterans.  Her friend Joe Ramsey and his son Joey present pens to deserving Veterans. Joe works as a Special Education Assistant at the Mosinee Middle School. Joey is Junior at Mosinee High School.

Roger Grebe, an Army Veteran, was recently nominated by Post 10 to be honored with the “Pen of Honor” award. Roger not only served our country honorably but also has served our community since he was 12 years old.

Roger enlisted in the Army in 1953 during the Korean War. He completed his 16 weeks of basic training and 13 weeks of Engineering School. He thought that he would be shipped to Korea but instead was sent to Germany. Roger held a troop information and education position and made many mail runs to the troops with a duce and a half truck. Roger was honorably discharged in 1955 as a corporal.

Many of you may know Roger from Grebe’s Appliance Store which his father started in 1946. Roger started working there at the age of 12 learning the business from his dad. He held many positions including that of the President for many years. He was responsible for the corporate work and his family handled the everyday business.

Roger is now the Service Officer at the Wausau American Legion Post 10 and with this position he helps many local Veterans in need. Roger has also served our community through his business for many years. He is currently a board member of LEAP Law Enforcement Appreciation Project and active in The Joseph Project counseling homeless people. He was an executive board member of the Wausau Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the West Side Business Association and a volunteer at the Wausau Warming Center.

We thank and honor Roger for his military service and many years of service to our community.
