Wausau Pilot & Review

Multiple crews are battling a wildfire off Camp Phillips Road in Weston that has prompted a lane closure on eastbound Hwy. 29, according to the Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation.

The fire was reported at about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 16 near the Hwy. 29 off-ramp to CTH X. The lane closure is expected to last for at least two hours, according to the DOT.

The blaze comes at a time of high fire danger complicated by significant winds in the area, making the situation especially hazardous. A wind advisory is in effect until midnight.

The blaze is among hundreds of wildfires being fought Tuesday in Wisconsin, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. This is a developing story that will be updated.

The Pilot often relies on reports from police officials in control of a crime, fire or crash scene during a breaking news event. While these initial reports are valuable to readers, they also can be incomplete and even inaccurate. We let readers know what we can and can’t confirm, as well as when and how we received our information. Then we work to aggressively gather a wider range of perspectives and to verify the information through public records, interviews, photos and videos, all of which are verified before publishing.
