One person was injured Friday after crashing a semi tractor trailer on Hwy. 10 near Algoma Street, according to the Point Plover Metro Wire.

The crash was reported at about 8:10 a.m. April 12 by a 911 caller who told dispatch that the westbound truck left the road and and came to a stop in a wooded area on the north side of the highway. Police say the semi came to rest about 80 yards from the road.

The truck is owned by Merrill-based Tri Hi Transportation, Inc., according to the PPMW report.

Hull Fire Chief Ken Sadogierski told PPMW the truck did not strike any buildings or other property, and no one but the motorist, an 82-year-old man, was injured. His injuries were described as non-life threatening.

A hazmat team was called to the scene. About 75 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from the semi’s tank into a lower area of conservancy near Parkdale Park near the east side of Stevens Point, PPMW reported. The spill was contained, but more remediation will likely be necessary, officials said.

Several trees were removed that had fallen into the semi to allow access to the fuel tanks. The truck was hauling cheese.

Firefighters finally left the scene shortly after noon on Friday. Adams Towing also planned to separate the cab from the trailer so the two pieces of the semi could be removed Friday after rush hour traffic.

Sgt. Jon Pedersen from the Wisconsin State Patrol said the motorist was cited for inattentive driving. Additional details on the crash are still pending, he said.
