WAUSAU — Members of the Wausau School Board on Monday approved a proposed contract to hire Dr. Keith Hilts, Jr. as the new district’s superintendent, according to the Wausau School District.

Hilts will begin his tenure on July 1 with a starting annual salary of $170,000.

Hilts, who has a Ph.D. in leadership, learning and service along with a masters degree in educational administration, is the current superintendent of schools in Ashland. During his more than seven years in the district, Hilts helped develop and implement three multi-age charter schools, according to his resume. Voters in Ashland in April 2015 supported a $34 million facility referendum.

Prior to joining the Ashland School District in July 2010, Hilts worked at schools in Random Lake, Grafton, Madison, Portage, and Oregon, Wis.

One reply on “UPDATE: Wausau School District approves contract with new superintendent”

  1. $170K for a Superintendent, when local district teachers have to watch how many copies they make on a copier so they don’t go over their allotted amount? This outrageous amount is a slap in the face to all of those “in the trenches” teachers who do battle each day by providing students an exceptional level of teaching while being confronted with profanity, bullying tactics and disrespectful behaviors from a few that disrupt the classroom of the whole. Unbelievable, just unbelievable.
