Wausau West High School senior Mikahla Klug received the 2018 National DECA Emerging Leader Honor Award, the district announced on Monday.

The award recognizes DECA high school seniors studying marketing, finance, hospitality, and management who are academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leaders through their participation in DECA.

To be recognized for this award, the DECA member must participate in various activities such as promoting DECA in the community, participating in a school-based enterprise and competing at a DECA conference. Additionally, the DECA member must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.4 or better for every high school semester.

DECA is a career and technical student organization composed of more than 210,000 students who are interested in careers in marketing, entrepreneurship, finance, hospitality or management. DECA enhances the preparation for college and careers by providing co-curricular programs that integrate into classroom instruction, apply learning, connect to business, and promote competition. DECA student members leverage their DECA experience to become academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leaders.
