UPDATE: A 36-year-old man wanted in connection with an overnight shooting in Wausau has been captured by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department, according to a Wausau Police Department release.

Zach A. Tesky, of Merrill, was identified as the alleged shooter in an altercation April 10 at a home on North Seventh Street in Wausau. He is accused of shooting another man in the leg, who was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police released an updated statement Wednesday afternoon to alert the public that Tesky is in custody.

At about 9:12 a.m., an officer responded to a complaint of a stolen vehicle from the 1700 block of Stark  Street. The vehicle was stolen sometime during the overnight hours. Evidence suggested the vehicle was likely stolen by Tesky, police said. A query of the department’s Flock Safety ALPR system produced license plate  captures in Oneida County.  

Just before noon, the Wausau Police Department was notified that Tesky had been arrested by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office. Tesky was in possession of the stolen vehicle.  

Tesky will be transported to the Marathon County Jail. The Wausau Police Department is recommending  to the Marathon County District Attorney’s Office charges of 1st Degree Reckless Injury, Operating a  Motor Vehicle without Owner’s Consent, and Bail Jumping.

Police in Wausau are on the hunt for a suspect in an overnight shooting on the city’s east side that left one man injured.

The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Zach A. Tesky, who allegedly fled from the home after shooting a man in the leg at a home in the 200 block of North Seventh Street. Tesky is considered dangerous, police said.

Officers responded to a call just before 2:30 a.m. April 10 to the home after a resident reported that his friend had been shot during a dispute with another man. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and the firearm used in the shooting was recovered at the scene, police said.

Tesky is about 6′ tall weighing 179 pounds and is bald. He was last spotted wearing a blue jacket with white sleeves and jeans, and could be driving a silver 2003 Ford F150 truck with a Wisconsin disabled plate number 37843DS. The vehicle was last seen at about 8:45 a.m. headed northbound on Hwy. 47 near Rhinelander.

Online court records show Tesky has five open felony cases in Marathon County aloneand is out on bond at this time. Charges, all of which were filed in 2024, range from bail jumping to battery, possessing an illegally obtained prescription, resisting or obstructing an officer and forgery, among others. Tesky lists a Merrill address in court records and has open cases pending in Lincoln County as well.
