Police say a 17-year-old driver died Saturday in a single-vehicle crash in Wood County.

The crash, on Hwy. 80 near the intersection of Hwy. 54, was called in at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13. Deputies arrived to discover the vehicle engulfed in flames. The driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene.

An initial report suggests the driver, whose name and gender have not been released, was traveling north on Hwy. 80, crossed into the southbound lane and left the roadway before striking a tree. Wood County Sheriff’s officials are continuing to investigate the crash.
